Top 5 Best Air Purifiers in India (October 2026): Compared, Ranked and Explained

Buying Guide

Walk into any Indian city in October and you can feel it. Post-monsoon dust, farm-fire smoke drifting in, firecracker season on the way and a thin grey haze in the evening sky. This is the time of year when thousands of people search for the same thing: “which is the best air purifier for my home?”

The honest answer is that there is no single best machine for everyone. A purifier that is perfect for a small bedroom will be useless in a big hall, and a powerful one can be wasted money in a tiny study. So instead of giving you one name and hoping for luck, I have put five popular air purifiers side by side: the Coway Airmega 150, the Philips AC0920, the Shark NeverChange, the Honeywell Air Touch V1 and the Levoit Core 300. I reviewed each of them in full on this site. Here, I compare them head to head, rank them, and help you pick the right one for your own room.

I will keep the language simple and explain every technical word with an easy example. There is also a small quiz that picks a purifier for you, and a calculator that shows what each machine really costs over several years.

The quick answer
  • Best overallCoway Airmega 150 (AP-1019C): good coverage, auto mode, long filter life and the best warranty of the five.

  • Best for big roomsShark NeverChange: made for up to about 1,400 sq. ft. with a filter that is claimed to last years.
  • Best on a budgetHoneywell Air Touch V1: lowest power use, lightest body and a simple 3-stage filter.
  • Best simple and timerLevoit Core 300: easy touch controls and a timer, but check the voltage before you buy.

How I Ranked These Air Purifiers

A ranking is only useful if you know how it was made. Here are the six things I looked at, in the order of how much they matter for daily life.

  1. Filtration: Does it have a real HEPA-class filter, and is there a carbon layer for smells?
  2. Room coverage: How big a room can it clean properly, not just on paper? I looked at the CADR and at how many times per hour the air gets cleaned.
  3. Noise: Can you sleep next to it?
  4. Running cost: Electricity plus the filters you will buy over the years. This is where many people get a surprise.
  5. Features: Auto mode, air quality display, timer and filter reminders.
  6. Buying risk: Warranty, replacement filters and, very importantly, whether the unit is made for Indian voltage.

The scores in this article come from my five full reviews, which you can open from each section below. The numbers (coverage, CADR, noise, power) come from the makers’ own specifications and independent test reports, and not from my own lab measurements, so treat them as a guide and always confirm them on the Amazon page before you order.

Read this before you buy any imported purifier

India’s mains supply is about 230 volts. Some air purifiers sold on Amazon India are the US versions made for 120 volts. A 120V machine plugged straight into an Indian socket can be damaged and can be unsafe. The Honeywell Air Touch V1 and the Coway Airmega 150 list a wide or Indian-suitable voltage range, but I have seen some retailers list the Levoit Core 300 and some Shark models as 120V. Always check the voltage and the plug type on the listing, and ask the seller to confirm in writing if it is not clear.

#1 Coway Airmega 150 (AP-1019C): Best Overall

1

Coway Airmega 150 (AP-1019C)

Best overall
8.5/ 10

If I had to put one purifier in an ordinary Indian home, it would be the Coway Airmega 150. It does not try to impress with an app or a big screen. It simply does the important things better than the others: it covers the biggest room in the small-purifier group, it adjusts itself in Auto mode, it has a proper three-stage filter, and the filters last for about a year and a half to two years.

The washable pre-filter catches hair and big dust. The carbon layer helps with everyday smells, and the anti-virus True HEPA filter traps very fine particles. A small four-colour light on the front shows the air quality at a glance, so you know in one second whether the room air is good or bad.

What really tips the balance for me is the warranty. Coway lists a five-year motor warranty (extendable to seven years on registration). In a product that runs for hours every day, the motor is the part that matters most, and a long warranty is a sign the maker trusts it.

#2 Philips AC0920: Best for Bedrooms

2

Philips AC0920

Best for bedrooms
8.5/ 10

The Philips AC0920 is the one I would pick if the purifier is going next to a bed. Philips lists a sleep-mode noise of about 20.5 dB, which is close to a whisper. It also weighs only about 2.5 kg, so you can carry it from the bedroom to the study with one hand.

It has a two-layer filter: a pre-filter and a HEPA NanoProtect filter that Philips says traps 99.97% of particles down to a tiny 0.003 microns. A sensor reads the air many times every second and the top display shows the air quality with a number and a colour. In Sleep mode, the display dims so it does not light up your room.

The trade-off is size and smell control. It is made for rooms up to about 30 square metres (around 320 sq. ft.), and it has no separate carbon layer, so it is better at dust and smoke particles than at cooking smell.

#3 Shark NeverChange: Best for Large Rooms

3

Shark NeverChange (HP300)

Best for large rooms
8.5/ 10

The Shark NeverChange plays in a different league from the other four. It is a large, tall machine made for big living rooms and open spaces of up to about 1,400 sq. ft. If you have a large hall, an open kitchen, or a big house with a few connected rooms, this is the only one of the five that really fits.

Its big idea is the filter. A washable Debris Defense screen sits in front of the main HEPA-class filter and catches hair and large dust, so the main filter stays clean. Shark claims this lets the filter last up to five years, which is very different from filters you change every six to twelve months. A Clean Sense IQ sensor adjusts the fan automatically, and an Odor Neutralizer cartridge adds a light fresh smell and helps with odours.

Remember that the five-year figure is based on Shark’s own test conditions, and a dusty home will use the filter faster. This machine also costs the most upfront and has a recurring cost for the odour cartridge. And, as I said above, check that the listing is made for Indian voltage and has a valid warranty in India.

Pros
  • Covers large rooms
  • Very long filter life claim
  • Washable screen and auto sensor
  • Odour cartridge adds freshness

#4 Honeywell Air Touch V1: Best on a Budget

4

Honeywell Air Touch V1

Best on a budget
8/ 10

The Honeywell Air Touch V1 is the plain and honest one. It has no screen, no app and no auto mode. What it has is a proper three-stage filter with an H13 HEPA layer and a carbon layer, three fan speeds, a touch panel and a filter-change light, all in a body that weighs just 1.5 kg.

It uses only about 12 watts, the lowest of the five by a long way, and it is rated for 100 to 240 volts, which suits Indian supply. At around 235 sq. ft., it fits a bedroom, a study or a small office. It is quiet on low (about 29 dB) and sounds like a gentle table fan on high (about 51 dB).

You give up the smart features, and you choose the speed yourself. In return you get a simple machine from a trusted brand at the lowest price of the group, with a two-year warranty. For a student room or a first purifier, that is a sensible deal.

Room size
About 235 sq. ft.
CADR
152 m³/h
Noise
29 to 51 dB
Power
12 W

  • Lightest, easy to move
  • H13 HEPA plus carbon
  • Works on 100 to 240 volts
Cons
  • No auto mode or display
  • Small rooms only
  • Filter about every year

#5 Levoit Core 300: Best Simple Purifier With a Timer

5

Levoit Core 300

Best simple with timer
8/ 10

The Levoit Core 300 is a very popular small purifier around the world, and it is easy to see why. It is a round tower with a three-in-one filter: pre-filter, H13 True HEPA and activated carbon. It has four fan levels including a sleep mode, a timer for 2, 4, 6 or 8 hours, and it remembers your last setting.

It makes about 240 m³/h of clean air and works well in rooms of about 220 sq. ft., which is the size of a typical bedroom. At low speeds it is very quiet, and the independent noise tests put it around 37 to 50 dB. The controls are so simple that anyone in the house can use them.

It lands at number five for three practical reasons. It has no auto mode or sensor, the filter needs changing about every six months, which is the shortest of the five, and some listings show the US 120V version. If the listing clearly says it is made for Indian 230V supply and the filter is easy to buy, it is a good small purifier. If not, pick another one.

Room size
About 220 sq. ft.
CADR
About 240 m³/h
Noise
24 dB claimed, 37 to 50 dB tested
Power
20 to 45 W
Filter life

Pros
  • Simple touch controls and a timer
  • H13 True HEPA with carbon
  • Very quiet on low
  • Remembers last setting
Cons
  • No auto mode or sensor
  • Filter change every 6 months
  • Check voltage before buying

Side-by-Side Charts

Numbers in a table are useful, but bars make the differences easy to see. In every chart, I have used each maker’s own figure.

Philips AC0920320
Honeywell V1235
Levoit Core 300220

The Shark bar looks so long because it is built for a different job. If your room is under about 350 sq. ft., the other four are all in the right size range.

Clean air made per hour (CADR, m³/h)

Coway Airmega 150303
Philips AC0920250
Levoit Core 300About 240
Honeywell V1152

I left the Shark out of this chart because its listing gives a range of 201 to 350 without a clear unit, so it is not safe to compare directly with the others.

Quietest setting (dB, lower is better)

Philips AC092020.5
Coway Airmega 15022
Levoit Core 30024

These are the quietest-setting claims from the makers. Independent tests often measure a little higher at a close distance, so use them to compare, not as exact values. The Shark has no clear dB figure, so it is not shown.

Find Your Purifier: A 20-Second Quiz

Tell me your room size and what matters most to you, and the quiz will pick the best match from the five. It checks the room size first, so it will never suggest a machine that is too small for your space.

Cost of Ownership: What Will Each One Really Cost?

The price on the box is only the start. Over a few years you also pay for electricity and for new filters, and a cheap purifier with a short-lived filter can end up costing more than a pricier one. Type in the current price of each purifier on Amazon and the price of one replacement filter, and the calculator will rank them by total cost. I have left the price boxes empty on purpose, because prices change often.

Model
Price (Rs)
Filter (Rs)
Coway Airmega 150
Philips AC0920
Shark NeverChange
Honeywell Air Touch V1
Levoit Core 300

How the calculator works: electricity is counted at each machine’s top-speed power, so it is a safe upper estimate and your real bill will usually be lower. The filter count uses these lives: Coway 18 months, Philips 12 months, Honeywell 12 months, Levoit 6 months and Shark 60 months. The filter that comes in the box is already included in the price. The Shark’s odour cartridge is a separate small cost that I have not counted.

Short on time? Our #1 pick is the Coway Airmega 150.Best all-round mix of coverage, filter life and warranty for most Indian homes.

How to Choose an Air Purifier: The Simple Guide

1. Match the machine to your room size

This is the most important step. A purifier works by pulling the air in your room through its filter again and again. The more times it does this every hour, the cleaner the air stays. Experts call this “air changes per hour”. A good level for a bedroom is about four to five air changes an hour. A purifier that is too small for the room will only do one or two, and you will feel little difference.

Be careful with big claims on the box. A line like “covers 1,000 sq. ft.” may be based on only one air change per hour, which is slow. Look for the size at about five air changes per hour instead.

2. Understand CADR in one minute

CADR stands for Clean Air Delivery Rate. It tells you how much clean air the machine produces in one hour. Think of it as the size of a water tap: a bigger tap fills a bucket faster. To get the air changes per hour, divide the CADR by your room volume. The calculators in my full reviews do this for you.

3. Look for HEPA, and ideally H13

HEPA filters trap very tiny particles like pollen, dust-mite waste, pet dander and the fine smoke particles known as PM2.5. H13 is a higher grade of HEPA and is a good sign. Be careful with words like “HEPA-type” or “HEPA-like”, which may not meet the real standard. Four of the five here have a clearly named HEPA filter, and the Shark uses a HEPA-class filter with a washable screen.

4. Decide if you need a carbon layer

HEPA filters catch particles but not smells. Smells are gases, and activated carbon is what captures them. Coway, Honeywell and Levoit have a carbon layer built into the filter, and Shark uses a separate odour cartridge. If you cook a lot or live near smoke, this matters. Even then, no small purifier replaces your kitchen chimney.

5. Check the noise at the speed you will really use

A purifier’s noise is listed at its lowest setting, which is the best case. You will probably run it at a low speed while you sleep and at a higher speed in the daytime. Compare the lowest and the highest numbers, and if you sleep lightly, give extra weight to the quietest one.

6. Add up the filter cost

This is the hidden cost. A filter every six months at a few hundred or a thousand rupees each adds up quickly. A longer filter life, like Coway’s 1.5 to 2 years or Shark’s claimed five years, can save a lot in the long run. Always check the replacement price and availability in India before you buy.

7. Look at auto mode and the display

An auto mode with an air quality display means you can forget about the machine. It speeds up when the air gets bad and slows down when it is clean. Coway, Philips and Shark have it. Honeywell and Levoit are manual, which is fine if you do not mind pressing a button.

8. Check the voltage, plug and warranty

This one is about safety. Make sure the listing says it is made for Indian 220 to 240 volts or a wide range such as 100 to 240 volts, and that the plug fits. Then check who gives the warranty in India. Keep your invoice, because you will need it for a claim.

Common Mistakes People Make When Buying an Air Purifier

  • Buying by the headline room size. Always check the size at about five air changes per hour, not the “up to” number.
  • Ignoring the filter price. A cheap machine with an expensive filter is not cheap.
  • Not checking the voltage. Imported units may be made for 120V.
  • Putting it in the wrong place. Do not hide it behind a sofa or press it against a wall.
  • Leaving doors and windows open. The purifier then tries to clean the whole outdoors.
  • Forgetting the filter. A clogged filter does not clean, and it makes the machine work harder.
  • Expecting a medical cure. A purifier cleans room air. It is not a medicine, and it does not replace a doctor’s advice.

How to Get the Best Results From Any Air Purifier

  1. Place it well. Keep it about a foot away from walls and curtains, in the room where you spend the most time.
  2. Close the room. Keep the doors and windows mostly shut while it runs.
  3. Run it for long hours. Dust keeps coming in, so a purifier works best when it runs for most of the day, on a low speed.
  4. Use high speed in bursts. After sweeping, cooking or when the air looks hazy, run it on high for 20 to 30 minutes and then go back down.
  5. Clean the pre-filter. Vacuum or wash it as the manual says, so the main filter lasts longer.
  6. Mark the filter date. Write the replacement date on your phone calendar.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which is the best air purifier in India in October 2026?

Among these five, the Coway Airmega 150 is the best overall for most homes. The Philips AC0920 is best for bedrooms, the Shark NeverChange is best for large rooms and the Honeywell Air Touch V1 is best on a budget.

Do I really need an air purifier in October?

Air quality in many Indian cities worsens in October and November because of seasonal smoke, dust and cooler, still air. An air purifier cannot fix outdoor pollution, but it can reduce the fine particles inside your room.

How big a room can these purifiers clean?

The Levoit and Honeywell suit rooms of about 220 to 235 sq. ft., the Philips about 320 sq. ft., the Coway about 355 sq. ft. and the Shark up to about 1,400 sq. ft. Use the sizes at about five air changes per hour for the best results.

Which purifier has the cheapest filters over time?

The Shark claims a five-year filter, and the Coway lasts about 1.5 to 2 years. The Levoit needs a new filter about every six months, which adds up. Use the cost calculator in this article with the real prices.

Which is the quietest air purifier of the five?

The Philips AC0920 has the lowest listed noise, about 20.5 dB in Sleep mode. The Coway and Levoit are also very quiet on their lowest settings.

Do any of these have an app or Wi-Fi?

No. None of the five has an app. The Coway, Philips and Shark have an auto mode, and the Honeywell and Levoit are manual.

Can I use a US-version air purifier in India?

Only if it is rated for Indian voltage. A 120V-only machine should not be plugged directly into a 230V socket. Check the label and the listing, and ask the seller to confirm.

Can an air purifier remove cooking smell?

Purifiers with carbon filters help with light odours, but they do not replace a chimney or ventilation. For strong smells, use both.

How often should I change the filter?

It depends on the model: about six months for the Levoit, about one year for the Philips and Honeywell, about 1.5 to 2 years for the Coway and up to five years claimed for the Shark. Dusty homes need changes sooner, so always follow the filter indicator.

Final Verdict: Which One Should You Buy?

All five purifiers in this list are good, and none of them is a bad buy. The right choice depends on your room and your priorities.

For most people, the Coway Airmega 150 is the best all-rounder: good room coverage, an auto mode, a long filter life and a strong warranty. If your main need is a quiet night in a bedroom, the Philips AC0920 is hard to beat. If you have a big hall and a flexible budget, the Shark NeverChange is the one that fits. If you are on a tight budget, the Honeywell Air Touch V1 is a simple and very economical start, and if you like a manual machine with a timer, the Levoit Core 300 is a good choice as long as the voltage is right.

Whichever you choose, do the three checks: measure your room, check the replacement filter price, and confirm the voltage and warranty. Do those and you will be happy with your purchase.
